The customer requested a double skinned wall of red engineering bricks with one course of blue bricks near the base topped with solid blue engineering bricks with piers.

The driveway originally consisted of old damaged concrete and slabs. This was broken up and removed; the driveway excavated to a depth of 200mm, sub-base hardcore laid and compacted; concrete charcoal blocks were then laid on a stiff concrete mix to form the outer layer then more hardcore was added to bring up the levels and compacted.
Concrete edgings were then laid between the path and the driveway to give a neat finish.

Sharp sand was then added, screeded off and tamped to allow for the brindle concrete blocks to be laid and cut as necessary. The blocks were then compacted before finer block paving sand was added and compacted in-between the block joints.

A further course of charcoal blocks were laid around the garden.

As you can see from the before photos, the bottom left handside corner of the building was in a terrible state.
This was due to a previous neghbour building a shed up against the customers house and due to no adequate drainage from the roof over a period of time the rain washed down the walls and caused a freeze/thaw process onto the bricks.

This then eroded the bricks away until finally the building started to fall away.To remedy this the old bricks had to be carefully removed and the corner rebuilt.

Also when the neighbour had built the shed, he’d knocked out bricks so he couild tie in the floor joists of his shed. These too had to be replaced and made good along with other bricks that had perished over the years.

The joints of the entire wall were then ground out and the wall repointed, coping stones were also replaced and repointed

Early repairs will prevent the latter from happening and bring the wall back to its former glory

As on all upper bathrooms with wooden floors due to movement; which could cause the tiles to crack; plywood should be laid first. In this instance a new product on the market called plastic ply was laid. This is slightly more expensive than wooden ply to lay, but as it is thinner and easier to cut it keeps the finished floor level lower; thus it should be on a level par with carpets in the next room and hopefully prevent you from having to remove the bathroom door to plane the bottom so it can still shut.

The floor was first prepared with tile primer, the plastic ply then stuck to the floor and the tiles laid on a rapid-set floor adhesive cut to suit sround the toilet and sink.
The tiles were then grouted and cleaned to give the finished look.

We completely ripped out the old kitchen units, moved the sink and washing machine supply, pulled up the old lino and levelled the floor. The walls were reskimmed and we retiled the entire floor area before building in the new kitchen.

The kitchen fit required a great deal of patience due to the walls unfortunately not being square, which was nothing to do with the skills of the plasterer, but more so of the original builders not building the house square!
As you can see the kitchen was supplied and fitted to a high specification , and we can arrange a designer to talk through the design you require.

You will also note some of the bricks had to be replaced due to frost damage over the years; the old ones are removed and replaced with new which dosent affect the structure of the building and giving the building a much nicer look.
A great deal of the older houses would benefit from this due to the fact the mortar between the bricks has been weathering away and dropping out over the years, thus leaving it susceptable to the elements causing possible damp and cold spots in the house.
Once pointed this should remedy these problems.
