The customer had a few slabs laid when the conservatory was built which suited the needs at the time, but was small and didn’t meet their full requirements.
The old slabs were lifted and the grassed area dug out.

As the height of the garden was higher than the patio, decorative concrete edgings were laid to hold back the soil and give a nice finish. Sub-base hardcore was brought in and compacted and indian sandstone in various sizes was laid on a wet sand and cement base.

The slabs were cut around the drains (after the largest drain was lowered to the height of the patio) and cut around the plants to the side. Gravel was laid in the gap between the end of the patio and the decorative edging to form a drainage channel for the rainwater.

Two steps were then built in red engineering bricks topped with indian sandstone slabs. The patio was then pointed with a stronger sand and cement mix and cleaned off to complete the look .

As you can see from the before photos, the bottom left handside corner of the building was in a terrible state.
This was due to a previous neghbour building a shed up against the customers house and due to no adequate drainage from the roof over a period of time the rain washed down the walls and caused a freeze/thaw process onto the bricks.

This then eroded the bricks away until finally the building started to fall away.To remedy this the old bricks had to be carefully removed and the corner rebuilt.

Also when the neighbour had built the shed, he’d knocked out bricks so he couild tie in the floor joists of his shed. These too had to be replaced and made good along with other bricks that had perished over the years.

The joints of the entire wall were then ground out and the wall repointed, coping stones were also replaced and repointed
